English and the Arts

Cristiana - Physics, Maths, Italian

Cristiana has a PhD in Positron Physics from University College, London and a first degree in Physics and Environment Physics from the University of Catania, Italy. She is a career tutor (ie, long-term), teaching Maths, Physics (mainly GCSE) and Italian as well as working as an interpreter and translator. Prior to tutoring she was a teaching assistant at the Physics Department of UCL, assessing undergraduates and supporting professors. She has also worked as a teacher of Physics and Maths in Italy for 18 months. Cristiana is fluent in English, mother tongue Italian and also has a good command of Hungarian and French.

Jade - Combined Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics

Jade is studying Medicine at Barts and The London, where she will graduate as a Doctor in March 2008. Since starting university Jade has obtained Merits for her first four years work and prizes for her recent exams. Jade is a part time tutor and has had excellent reports from previous tutees and their parents. Jade has experience in tutoring both GCSE and A-Level Combined Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Vladislav - Maths, Physics

Vladislav is currently studying for a PhD at the Department of Applied Maths and Theoretical Physics, Cambridge University. Prior to this, also at Cambridge he took a Certificate in Advanced Study in Maths with Distinction (a curious Cambridge qualification broadly equivalent to a Masters) and a BA Hons in Natural Sciences focused on Experimental and Theoretical Physics (first class). He currently teaches Maths to undergraduate Natural Science students. Vladislav is Russian, but is also fluent in English.

Kyungmi - Maths, Statistics

Kyungmi has an MSc Statistics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a first class BSc(Hons) Mathematics with Finance and Economics from City University, London. She speaks Korean as her mother tongue but is of course, fluent in English as well. She tutors Maths and Statistics only and has been doing so for 3 years. She is experienced in working both with 'regular' tutees (those who require tuition every week throughout the school year) and 'revision' tutees (such as boarding school students seeking help during their Easter and half-term holidays). Within Maths she has taught Further Pure Mathematics, Core Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics.

Lara - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths

Lara has a BMedSc Hons Medical Science from the University of Birmingham and is currently studying for an MSc Nutrition at Kings College, London. She is all rounder and tutors Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths (Biology and Chemistry up to A Level). Whilst at Birmingham University, she established an international volunteering society, to allow students to travel around the world and work with local NGOs for only the cost of their flight. As president of this society she had an integral role in teaching cultural awareness, basic first aid and HIV/AIDS awareness to volunteers.

Mahreen - Economics, Maths

Mahreen has a BA Hons Economics from Cambridge University. She tutors Maths and Economics. She has experience tutoring in an individual one-to-one context and also in a classroom environment. She studied up to 16 in India and then came over to England for her A-Levels. Between A-Levels and university she taught Maths classes for students aged 12-15. In addition to fluent English, she speaks Bengali, Hindi and Urdu.

Mara - English, History, Religious Studies

Mara has been tutoring for a decade and has very diverse experience. As well as one-to-one tuition, she has worked in a classroom context, having taught basic English and Maths to a class of 73 in Swaziland and worked with French students aged 12-16 at summer schools. She is particularly strong in working with children with learning or behavioural difficulties. Mara has a BA Hons in Theology and Religious Studies from Cambridge University and tutors English, History and Religious Studies. She is very bright and approachable and understands the importance of building confidence and developing exam technique.

Zara - Chemistry, Biology, French

Zara has been tutoring for two years and teaches both Sciences and Languages. She has an MA in Chemistry, an MA in Linguistics, a PhD in Molecular Biology and Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification. Zara speaks French, German, Italian and Hebrew and is well practiced in preparing students for different examination boards at GCSE and A-Level. She is currently studying for a PGCE (to become a secondary teacher).

Gergely - German, French

Gergely is currently the chief editor translator of a publishing house specialised in language teaching materials. He speaks German, French and Hungarian and is a qualified teacher of German and French with an MA in German Literature and Linguistics. Gergely has been tutoring for eight years and has several years teaching experience in a classroom environment in a grammar school. We have discussed your need to learn quite specific vocabulary and he is comfortable with this. He is also happy for you to travel to his home for tuition or to travel to you, depending on your preference.

Christy - Business, Mandarin, Cantonese

Christy has native fluency in Cantonese and Chinese Mandarin. She has also passed numerous tests of professional English. She has an MA in International Business and Management from Bradford University and a Diploma in Business Administration from the Central Radio and TV University in China. She has spent much of her career so far in Guangzhou, China working in sales-related roles for large companies.

Eva - Greek, German

Eva is a native Greek speaker and began tutoring Greek as a foreign language and German in Athens in the early 90s. Between 1993 and 1999 she was an Instructor of Greek as a foreign language at Institution for Continuous Learning in Salzburg, Austria and also in Germany. She has also spent a year teaching German for the Ministry of Education in Athens and between 2003 and 2005 was a Lecturer at the University of the Aegean, Syros, Greece. In 2006-07 she taught Greek A-Level and Greek as a foreign language at an independent school in London whilst also studying herself at the London School of Economics as a Visiting Junior Research Fellow. Eva has a BA: German Language and Literature and an MA: Political Science and Sociology, both from the University of Athens. In addition to Greek, she is fluent in English, German and French, has a good knowledge of Italian and a basic knowledge of Japanese.

Elio - Music

Elio has been playing guitar for over 10 years and is a full-time music tutor listed with the Register of Guitar Tutors. He is an active guitarist, having played hundreds of gigs with several bands and in a broad variety of musical styles, including rock, blues, country, reggae, etc. He teaches from beginner through to experienced levels and has designed his own beginners' guitar course. Elio has taught students for grades and is delighted his students have so far gained Distinctions. Elio has a Diploma from the Institute of Contemporary Performance in London where he was awarded Guitar Player of the Year. He has worked with students from age 5 to 65.
